1. What are benefits and risks of energy healing?
Every healer has unique perceptions and skills. So I can only answer this question from the background of my own training and life experience. I personally believe that permanent healing always requires the exploration of illness in the larger context of the soul’s journey.
Benefits: A well-trained and experienced energy healer is able to engage you deeply in your healing process. Rather than focusing primarily on the relief of physical or emotional symptoms, you will be encouraged and guided to explore the cause of the challenges you are facing. As you grow in awareness of the multi-layered nature of illness, participate consciously in the healing work and make changes in your life, you will move towards your goal of recreating health.
While receiving energy treatments will be a major focus of your sessions, the effect and depth of your healing process will shift and be greatly enhanced when you decide to study and apply the principles, which govern the energy systems that you are part of. At that point, energy healing can become an amazingly powerful tool, as rich and multi-dimensional as life itself, because it addresses all aspects of your body, mind and soul.
Risks: Energy-based treatment forms follow precise energetic laws and principles. They are designed to restore the flow of universal energy that governs all life. There is no reason to be concerned about potential risks when these principles are honored and with wisdom applied in response to the imbalances that show in the different levels of your energy field.
Considerations: If you are searching for an energy healer to assist you with complex physical/emotional challenges, make sure that you receive individualized treatments, which are the result of accurate sensing and interpretation of the energetic conditions you present.
You also need to know that spiritual energy or light, which is being released into your field during a treatment, will - by its own nature - activate and bring into your awareness unresolved emotional issues. So you might want to find out whether the healer you intend to work with is deeply familiar with the emotional part of the energy field and feels comfortable to guide you in your work with the “shadow.” This includes the healer’s ability to help integrate what is surfacing.
Here are some important questions to ask yourself:
How willing and ready am I to actively participate in my healing process?
Am I open to explore the cause of my current problems?
How ready am I to make changes in my life?
How committed am I to “stay on track” when the process becomes challenging?
What are the physical, emotional and spiritual resources I can rely on during possible emotional challenges in my healing work?
2. Are there any contraindications or special considerations regarding receiving energy work?
Yes, there are many medical conditions, which – from my perspective - should only be treated by a healer who has been trained in the medical/spiritual application of energy healing. Many of the increasingly complex health problems, which we are collectively facing at this time, challenge even experienced healing practitioners. But again, if you choose a healer with sufficient knowledge, skills, and wisdom to actively engage you and your connection to your body as a source of information, receiving treatments will be safe.
However, it is important to understand that certain physical/emotional conditions and states of mind can be worsened by an increase of energy, which is channeled improperly. For example, a person suffering from a severe migraine attack seldom tolerates being touched at the head. Increasing energy in the mental field without opening energy channels first through which excess energy can be released, would contribute to unnecessary additional pain.
Other conditions, which need to be treated with special attention and care, are certain states of mental imbalances, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, depression and cancer.
3. How does energy healing complement conventional therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or psychotherapy?
Both, traditional and complementary treatment forms have the same goal: to re-establish wellbeing. While medical treatments focus primarily on the physical aspects of illness, the strength of energy healing can be described as assisting clients in experiencing themselves – through the process of transforming illness – as whole, appreciative of an increasingly balanced expression of body, mind and soul.
It should be apparent that both approaches serve in unique ways to eliminate suffering.
Surgery: I can only answer this question in a general way, because a wide variety of healing interventions take place when I assist a client before, during and after surgery.
In many ways, I complement energetically what the surgeon does, aligning with and amplifying the body’s instinctive way of surviving an insult such as being cut open.
For example, when there is cutting, I focus on mending; when the level of vitality drops, I draw in light frequencies that strengthen the flow of vital energy. All of this is done by setting precise impulses in the part of the energy field, the etheric body, which reflects the functions of the physical body.
There are many healing interventions that take place simultaneously on other levels of consciousness as well. While our mind may struggle to grasp what is being described here, it can be understood when we acknowledge that we are part of a consciousness that includes other dimensions of being.
Chemotherapy and Radiation: Whenever a person is challenged by an illness such as cancer, the whole energy field undergoes a major shift. Especially when I work with someone who is going through chemotherapy or radiation, I scan the energy field carefully before I start the treatment. For example, I evaluate the level of vibrancy of the major organs, which commonly drops during chemo and radiation and identify energetic and emotional depletion as well as areas where communication within or between levels of the energy field has slowed or broken down. As most patients experience increased levels of worry, anxiety and overwhelm, I also look at the imbalances in the emotional field, weaving all the information I received into a uniquely individualized treatment.
Psychotherapy: In answering your question, let me describe a unique aspect of the energy field to you. You may know already that the energy field has different levels or “bodies”. Each of those bodies has a unique function, processes and stores specific information - such as emotions, thoughts and beliefs - and vibrates at a different frequency. These energy bodies can be compared to different programs and files in a computer that you can access.
One of these levels, the etheric body, which in psychological literature is called the “unconscious mind”, stores all your unconscious processes. While we are often unable to consciously access the information that is vital for our healing process, a healer may be able to team up with your body’s wisdom and activate layers with the intention to release information or provide specific functions that are beneficial to your work with the therapist.
This may include healing interventions to unblock and release emotional energy, tracking the energetic signature of trauma held in the body so that trauma can be gently released, lowering anxiety or opening congested areas in the body/mind that keep you from healing from depression.
But there is more. As all treatments contribute to restoring your natural ability to draw in spiritual light, you will most likely feel an increase of an overall balance, contentment, joy and inner peace.
4. How effective is energy healing for treating chronic illness, especially cancer?
In my experience, energy healing always has a positive effect in the sense that it creates changes in the energy field, which have the potential to restore balance. It is important, though, to realize that a healer only provides an environment that encourages healing. The actual healing itself is initiated and guided by the wisdom of your soul.
5. What can I expect during and after a healing session?
Everybody experiences energy treatments in very unique ways. For some people it is a time of quiet introspection, a journey inward; others receive answers to their questions. You may be flooded with memories or images, or experience strong emotions related to your past. But even though you may relive old pain, you can be assured that the energy that has been set in motion will settle down within a short period of time.
Immediately after a treatment, you may feel relaxed and peaceful, tired or energized, or at times even slightly disoriented. During the days following a session, strong emotions, memories and dreams may come up that can give you new insights into your process. Though those reactions are natural, some people feel uncomfortable while these emotions pass through.
6. What do you expect from the people you work with? How actively do I have to participate in the healing work?
You can be confident to reach the goal you have set for your healing process, if you are willing to gently challenge yourself. Your commitment to open to your emotional self with honesty and compassion is essential because it will result in new perspectives about who you are and what your life’s journey is about. When this happens, your healing process will deepen tremendously.
7. Why is it so important to include the physical body in emotional healing?
Though the levels of the energy field are vibrationally clearly defined, they interpenetrate and vibrate in resonance with each other. This means, by nature’s design, emotional energy is constantly flowing through the body. A problem arises when we are unable or unwilling to process our emotions at the time they occur. In these situations, our resistance - in essence our thoughts – prevents the energy from being properly released through the body’s natural channels. As a result, the emotional energy is held in organs and tissue, a process, which slowly alters the vibrancy of cells. Many healers consider this lack of vibrancy to be a major factor in the development of disease.
In order to reverse the process, the body needs to be stimulated to release the energies that prevent health. For deeper exploration, see The Living Matrix: a film on the science of healing.
8. What is your advice on receiving different types of bodywork while dealing with chronic health issues?
Only you can tell what serves you and what doesn’t. Acupuncture, cranio-sacral work, massages and energy treatments are quite compatible. As a guideline, allow at least 2-5 days between treatments for integration.
However, I do not recommend working with different energy practitioners at the same time, for the same reasons you would not consider being treated by two homeopaths or therapists at the same time.
